How to Use the Medifries Anki Deck

So you’ve decided to get serious with your revision — good call. Here’s how to set up your Medifries Anki deck step by step, plus some tips to make sure you actually stick with it.

Step 1: Download Anki

First things first, you need the Anki app.
Go to https://apps.ankiweb.net/ and download the version that works for your computer (Windows / Mac). If you want it on your phone too, search “AnkiMobile” (iOS) or “AnkiDroid” (Android) — but set it up on your computer first.

Step 2: Install Some Essential Add-ons

These free add-ons make Anki so much better.
Open Anki, click Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons and copy-paste these codes:

  • Advanced Search Function — lets you find exactly what you need: 874215009

  • Review Heatmap — shows a nice visual of your study streak: 1771074083

Once you’ve pasted a code, hit OK and restart Anki when you’re done.

Step 3: Tweak the Anki Settings

Out of the box, Anki limits how many cards you can study per day — we don’t want that.

  • Click the gear icon next to your deck → Options.

  • Under New Cards/day and Maximum Reviews/day, set both to 99999.
(Don’t worry, you won’t actually do that many — this just stops Anki from blocking you.)

Step 4: Get Your Medifries Anki Deck

Log in to your Medifries account, go to the Flashcards section, and click Download.
You’ll get an .apkg file .. this is your deck.

Step 5: Import the Deck

Back in Anki:

  • Click File → Import.

  • Find the .apkg file you just downloaded.

  • Click Open.
Anki will add the Medifries deck to your collection .. it might take a moment if it’s big.

Step 6: Don’t Panic , Organise Your Cards

Now you have a billion cards. Here’s what to do:

  1. Click Browse (top bar).

  2. Find the Medifries deck in the left sidebar.

  3. Select all the cards (Ctrl + A).

  4. Right-click → Toggle Suspend.
This will “grey out” all cards.. they won’t show up for review.

Next, pick what you actually want to study today.
Let’s say you’re tackling “Hearing Loss”:

  • In tags, find “Hearing Loss” under ENT section.

  • Select those cards.

  • Right-click → Toggle Suspend again to unsuspend them.

That’s it .. now only those cards will appear in your study queue.

Tips to Make This Work

Keep It Manageable:
Don’t unsuspend everything at once. Do it topic by topic, day by day. This keeps reviews realistic.

Sync Regularly:
If you’re using Anki on your phone too, sign up for a free AnkiWeb account and click Sync often. This way your progress follows you.

Stick To A Daily Habit:
The real magic of Anki is consistency. 20-30 mins daily beats a 5-hour binge once a month.

Be Patient:
The Medifries deck is huge because it covers everything ... you don’t have to finish it overnight. Take it topic by topic, exam block by exam block.

Final Thought

Anki is powerful, but only if you use it properly. Don’t just click through cards — read actively, add your own notes if needed, and connect it to your Medifries textbook and cases.

Good luck.
